Aviation Workers Stage Protest

Radio New Zealand May 16, 2007

Aircraft engineers in Auckland walked off the job for two hours on Wednesday morning as part of an international day of protest by aviation workers.

Engineers, Printing & Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little said Air New Zealand has repeatedly threatened to outsource engineering jobs in a bid to cut pay and conditions.

He said the protest also aimed to draw attention to union demands for a parliamentary inquiry into Air New Zealand's industrial relations practices.

Christchurch engineers will stage a similar stoppage from 1.30pm.
